New Indonesia & Malaysia Restaurant

Doyers Street was one of the first streets in New York to be inhabited by Asian immigrants, and the prices at this downstairs gem are still stuck in the past. Prepare for vivid flavors in dishes like curried crab with transparent noodles: A clay pot is filled with four red cracked-in-half crustaceans in a thick broth of coconut milk, red curry, red chili and lemongrass. Indonesian fried chicken is bathed in dark, thick, sweet soy sauce. Another regional favorite, mee rebus, combines crunchy crackers, egg noodles, cucumber, bean sprouts and egg in a thick, intense sweet-and-sour sauce. Even the Tsingtao beer is cheap, at $2.50.
