The best place to eat before a Broadway show is Café Edison in the Edison Hotel. It’s this old, little café. They have this delicious borscht and matzoh ball soup that I thoroughly recommend. And after a Broadway show, I like going to Cafe Un Deux Trois on 44th Street between Broadway and Sixth. They’re really nice there. The maitre d’ is called Jose. Tell him I sent you.

Hotel Edison

Theater lovers flock to this recently renovated Art Deco hotel for its affordable rates and convenient location. Rooms are of a standard size but are decidedly spruced up. Café Edison (212-840-5000), a classic diner just off the lobby, is a longtime favorite of Broadway personalities and their fans—Neil Simon was so smitten that he put it in one of his plays. Rooms: 800. Bar. Business center. Gym. High-speed wireless Internet ($10/day). Restaurant.
